THIMPHU, BHUTAN / TAIPEI, TAIWAN
The World Peace Grand Prayer Ceremony is currently taking place in Bhutan, recognized as the happiest country in the world. Venerable Master Da Hui, Chairman of One Buddha One World International Buddhist Organization, Abbot of Kuang Siu Monastery, and Chairman of the Taichung Buddhist Association, has been officially invited by the Prime Minister of Bhutan as the representative of Taiwan’s Mahayana Buddhism for this momentous event. Leading a distinguished Taiwanese delegation, he delivered a 50-minute exclusive session, offering a prayer in Chinese and extending Taiwan’s blessings of peace to Bhutan and the entire world.
“In the embrace of the Himalayas, in this sacred land of Bhutan where the nectar of the Dharma has flowed for thousands of years, we are pilgrims from Taiwan—representing Kuang Siu Monastery, the One Buddha One World International Buddhist Organization, and the Taichung Buddhist Association—who have come to this pure Buddhist land with immense reverence and gratitude,” the prayer began.

The World Peace Grand Prayer Ceremony, graciously hosted by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan, stands as the largest religious gathering held in the kingdom in four centuries. It has attracted Buddhists and pilgrims from across the globe to the capital, Thimphu, where tens of thousands gathered upon the sun-drenched lawns at the foot of the Himalayas to chant sacred scriptures and pray for blessings.
The solemn presence of Venerable Master Da Hui, the heartfelt prayer, and the Taiwanese delegation’s chanting of Samantabhadra’s Vows (from the Avatamsaka Sutra) in Chinese created a truly transcendent moment that captivated the entire assembly. In an unscheduled yet profoundly moving gesture, the revered Tulku Kunga Tenzin Rinpoche spontaneously began reciting the sacred name “Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva.” The crowd immediately understood and collectively joined in perfect harmony, seamlessly reciting the Heart Sutra, which so many have committed to heart through countless recitations. These deeply moving scenes, accompanied by the Buddhist chant “Amitabha Buddha” composed by Mr. William Chang, Secretary-General of One Buddha One World International Buddhist Organization, were broadcast globally by Bhutan’s state media, eternally preserving this historic milestone.

Following this sacred and triumphant Taiwan session, Venerable Master Da Hui and the esteemed Tulku Kunga Tenzin Rinpoche granted an exclusive interview to CNEWS. Venerable Master Da Hui expressed his profound gratitude for the extraordinary opportunity to represent Chinese Mahayana Buddhism in Bhutan, conducting prayers for world peace within such a grand mandala using the venerable Chinese Mahayana tradition—”a once-in-a-millennium blessing, where a thousand years converge in a single moment.” “I am deeply moved,” he shared. “To experience this sacred Dharma affinity in this lifetime, gathering with eminent monastics from around the world here in Bhutan—I am profoundly grateful for Rinpoche Tenzin’s gracious arrangements.”

Tulku Tenzin Rinpoche, who studied in Taiwan for a decade, holds the distinction of being Bhutan’s highest-ranking reincarnate Tulku. He enjoys the profound trust of the Bhutanese Royal Family and serves as the Administrator for all Royal Monasteries and the Royal Nunnery of Bhutan. Most significantly, Venerable Master Da Hui’s participation represents the first and only recommendation Rinpoche Tenzin has made to His Majesty the King in many years.
Tulku Tenzin Rinpoche shared with CNEWS his immense joy at the successful completion of Venerable Master Da Hui and the Taiwan delegation’s participation in the Peace Grand Prayer Ceremony. “This sacred affinity transcends words and language; it feels like a dream,” he reflected.

As the representative of Taiwan’s Mahayana Buddhism at this historic gathering, Venerable Master Da Hui offered a prayer beneath Bhutan’s clear, azure sky: “In this turbulent era, may the power of the Dharma flow like water from the snowy mountains—cooling and enduring, nourishing every parched soul. May the world know peace, may all sentient beings be freed from suffering and find happiness, may the Three Vehicles of Buddhism flourish evermore, may the light of compassion and wisdom illuminate every corner of the world, may disasters cease throughout the earth, and may the lotus of Bodhi bloom within every heart.”
